LIKE A MAN ON EARTH

a film by Andrea Segre, Dagmawi Yimer and Riccardo Biadene

with a book of theArchive of Migrant Memories

edited by Marco Carsetti e Alessandro Triulzi

Introduction by Ascanio Celestini

With the support of Amnesty International, Italy

The documentary Like a man on earth for the first time breaks the silence on the agreements between Italy and Libya about the control of immigration from Africa. It shows the terrible violence suffered by migrants arrested and sent back to Libya.

A journey of pain and dignity told through the voice of Dagmawi Yimer, that denounces the atrocities thousands of men, women and children go through, being rejected by the “evil” of the Italian Minister Maroni and put under the control of Libya, a violent and dictatorial state. A film against violence, forced returns and migrants' deportation.

Like a man on earth is now available in bookshops, a special edition including the film subtitled in 5 languages (Italian, English, Spanish, German and French) and an inedited book of testimonies collected in the Archive of Migrants Memories. The project has been realized by Asinitas Onlus in collaboration with ZaLab and Lettera27, to give dignity, voice and space to the memories of migrants who have joint and still join our country.

In the book there are contributions of the five authors, of the two journalists and film consultants Gabriele Del Grande and Stefano Liberti and of the cinema critics Dario Zonta and Boris Sollazzo.

The DVD, edited by Stefano Collizzolli (ZaLab), includes 50 minutes of special contents, with a short film by Dagmawi Yimer, a photo gallery by Gabriele Del Grande and an abstract of a audio-documentary by Roman Herzog, both resulting from a reportage realized inside Libyan detentions centers in November 2008.
